La definizione di HTML5 è completa, il W3C passa alla fase dei test per l'interoperabilità e le prestazioni

La prima bozza di HTML 5.1 offre uno sguardo alla prossima tornata di standardizzazione



17 dicembre 2012 - Oggi il World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) annuncia la pubblicazione della definizione completa delle specifiche relative ad HTML5 e Canvas 2D. Sebbene non ancora W3C standard, queste specifiche sono ora complete per tutte le caratteristiche, consentendo in questo modo a imprese e sviluppatori di avere una piattaforma stabile per l'implementazione e la pianificazione. HTML5 è la componente fondamentale della Open Web Platform, un ambiente completo di programmazione per applicazioni cross-platform con accesso alle funzionalità dei dispositivi, video e animazioni, grafica, stile, tipografia e altri strumenti per l'editoria elettronica, funzionalità estese di networking e altro ancora.

"Quanto più le tecnologie Web si diffondono, più gli stakeholder richiedono di poter fare riferimento ad uno standard stabile" ha detto Jeff Jaffe, W3C CEO. "Da oggi, le imprese sanno di poter contare su HTML5 per i prossimi anni e conoscono le aspettative degli utenti. Allo stesso modo, gli sviluppatori sanno ora quali competenze sviluppare per realizzare applicazioni per smartphone, auto, televisione, ebook, segnalazioni digitali e altri dispositivi non ancora noti."

Inoltre, il W3C, annuncia oggi la prima bozza di HTML 5.1 e Canvas 2D, Level 2, un'anteprima dei prossimi passi di standardizzazione. La comunità W3C continua a migliorare le caratteristiche dell'HTML esistente e a svilupparne di nuove, includendo estensioni per completare le caratteristiche già comprese in HTML5, per quanto riguarda accessibilità, immagini reattive e streaming adattivo.

Dalle implementazioni di punta alla piena interoperabilità di HTML5 nel 2014

I recenti sviluppi tecnologici e un mercato effervescente dei browser sono stati fonte di innovazioni significative, molte delle quali sono ora parte di HTML5 e delle tecnologie correlate. In una recente indagine sulle interfacce utente condotta da Kendo interpellando più di 4000 sviluppatori, il 63 percento ha indicato che "stanno attivamente sviluppando con HTML5." Tuttavia, la stessa indagine mostra anche che la "browser fragmentation" rimane un elemento importante di preoccupazione per gli sviluppatori, in quanto aumenta i costi e la complessità nell'uso di una tecnologia.

Per ridurre la browser fragmentation ed estendere le implementazioni ad una gamma completa di strumenti che impiegano e producono HTML, ora il W3C passa alla fase di Candidate Recommendation dedicata alla interoperabilità e al testing.

Durante questa fase, il W3C HTML Working Group svolgerà una serie di attività per assicurare che le specifiche possano essere implementate in modo compatibile tra i vari browser, authoring tool, email client, server, content management system e altri strumenti Web. Il gruppo analizzerà le implementazioni attuali di HTML5, stabilirà priorità per lo sviluppo di test e lavorerà con la comunità per svilupparli. Per questa fase di implementazione l'HTML Working Group ha definito il piano di attività fino a metà 2014, dopodiché il W3C prevede di pubblicare la versione finale di HTML5 Recommendation, che sarà disponibile Royalty-Free per tutti gli implementatori secondo le regole della W3C Patent Policy.

L'HTML Working Group non è l'unico soggetto a perseguire il successo di HTML5 e più in generale della Open Web Platform. Per esempio, il Web Performance Working Group — che oggi ha pubblicato due W3C Recommendation relative alle metriche di performance - ha recentemente annunciato le conclusioni emerse da un Workshop tenutosi a Novembre e sta sviluppando tecniche per misurare e migliorare le prestazioni delle applicazioni Web. Il Web e il TV Interest Group e il Core Mobile Web Community Group hanno dato priorità alla fase di test come metodo per promuovere lo sviluppo di un crescente insieme di dispositivi.
